Become a Walk Leader!

Anyone can lead a Jane's Walk because everyone is an expert on the places they live, work, learn and play in. 

 

Here are some things to note before submitting your walk:

• Jane’s Walks can be led by anyone who wants to share with others what they believe makes their neighborhood, or King Township, a special place to live. If you've ever discussed local stories & issues in King Township with friends or family, why not bring your ideas to your neighbours through a Jane's Walk?

• As a walk leader, you help citizens get to know their communities by gathering people outside of their homes, offices, and cars to exchange knowledge, tell stories, and share experiences. Your walk & conversation can be approximately one to two hours in length and can be about music, art, nature, architecture, diversity, heritage, history, planning issues… any thread in the fabric of life in our community. The 2023 walk "Hidden Histories of Schomberg Main Street" is a good example of what we're looking for. However, while Jane’s Walks are often walking tours, they can also be bike rides, poetry readings, performance, webinars, games, & more! We encourage you to get creative about accessibility & engagement.​

• Jane’s Walk supports the principle of self-organization and civic engagement. The walks submitted are not curated, however, they are supported through planning & promotion, especially as we are still launching our Chapter! We have 3 main slots available for the 2024 walk schedule, but are happy to promote others.

• Note that the inclusion of any walk does not imply an endorsement from Jane’s Walk King of any specific perspectives or proposals.  Jane’s Walk King does reserve the right to withdraw a walk if the subject, location or leader poses any harm or danger to participants, makes use of hate speech, or defames or excludes specific individuals or groups.

​

• Our deadline is April 15th (deadline extended!). We will accept walks until the end of April, but it is ideal to have two weeks lead time for us, and you, to get the word out about your walk. We will advertise your walk on our Instagram @JanesWalk.King and create an event for each walk on our Facebook page as well as our website.
